Gendering the Draft Treaty on Crimes Against Humanity
Following a historic vote in 2022, significant progress has been made toward the development of a new international treaty on crimes against humanity. The treaty has significant potential to advance protection for civilian populations at risk as well as justice for gender-based crimes.
A collection of human rights organizations and international law experts published a letter and several briefs ahead of a United Nations Sixth Committee debate on the treaty in October 2023. They urge UN member states to focus on several key issues to ensure a gender-progressive, survivor-centric, and intersectional treaty.
