Sudan
With the deteriorating humanitarian situation in Sudan, and the pervasiveness of crimes against women, there has been an increase in the activities of international organizations working towards humanitarian relief, international protection, and international justice. In addition to grassroots organizations that have been working in Sudan to promote women's rights in their local communities, many organizations are devoting countless time and resources to upholding and protecting the rights of women and the rule of law in Darfur to be free from violence and gain access to justice. Following the GJC's focus on promoting women's inclusion in transitional justice and political processes as a strategic time to embed international law and women's rights, in 2007 the GJC created this mapping of organizations working with women in Dafur, Sudan, to facilitate coordination and efficiency among the disparate groups working on gender and rule of law in Sudan...read more
Kyrgyzstan
The GJC is partnering with the Forum of Women's NGOs in Kyrgyzstan, established in 1995 to coordinate the work of women's rights organizations in Kyrgyzstan and to explore how international mechanisms can advance their work in promoting gender equality in governance and law reform. There are currently no women in the Kyrgyz Parliament. In addition, women face an increasingly precarious situation as concerns about the threat to gender equality from Islamic fundamentalism grows.
