Iraq Updates

On January 25th, the Global Justice Center arranged for visits with Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg and to the National Holocaust Memorial Museum for 9 IHT judges visiting the U.S. The trip was part of the GJC program of Judicial Entrepreneurship, by which we seek to encourage judges to be leaders in creating change through innovations in law and culture. Justice Ginsburg commended the Judges' efforts towards equality for Iraqi women and encouraged them to continue their work. The visit to the Holocaust Museum gave the Judges a chance to understand the crimes against the Jews and place their own experience of genocide into a broader historical context.

The Global Justice Center continues to work with the IHT judges. Future plans include a speaking tour for Judge Mohammed of the IHT throughout the Middle East, where he can share his experience learning about the importance of gender justice. We are also working with the judges on future cases at the IHT so that they can continue to advance equality through their work.
