Lucy Turnbull Calls for Justice for Women of Burma on International Women's Day

Sydney Morning Herald, Op-Ed

March 8, 2010

In honor of International Women's Day, Lucy Turnbull writes in the Sydney Morning Herald that the UN must act on Burma, noting that this year's upcoming elections are "a sham and will further entrench the military at the heart of power". She calls for a boycott of the elections given their basis on the sham 2008 constitution that "wipes the the slate clean for the military; those behind criminal acts including rape, violence and torture are given amnesty".

Lucy Turnbull is the former lord mayor of Syndey, and awarded Aung San Suu Kyi the keys to the city in 2003 in honor of her acheivements in Burma.
