The Global Justice Center welcomes UK support for an ICC referral for Burma
March 26, 2010
The Global Justice Center welcomes the United Kingdom's announcement that it would support a UN Security Council Referral to the International Criminal Court for Burma. Ambassador and Permanent Representative of the UK to the UN noted that while the UN Security Council was not "sufficiently unanimous" on the subject of an ICC referral, the UK "of course would support such a reference".
Since the report of the UN Special Rapporteur on the Situation of Human Rights in Myanmar, the United Kingdom is the second government to publicly support an ICC referral as recommended by the Special Rapporteur, with Australia being the first.
