The 10th annual Edith I. Spivack Award, given by the Women's Rights Committee of the New York County Lawyers' Association, was presented on March 26, 2007 to Janet Benshoof during a 6 p.m. ceremony at the organization's headquarters at 14 Vesey Street, followed by a reception.
Ms. Benshoof is president and founder of the Global Justice Center, as well as the former president and founder of the Center for Reproductive Rights. She spoke on U.S. policy in the reproductive rights area, as did Nancy Northrup, Ms. Benshoff's successor as president of the Center for Reproductive Rights.
Namesake of Ms. Benshoof's award is the late Edith I. Spivack, who served as assistant corporation counsel with the New York City Law Department from 1934 to 2004.
